The Games, which are free to all competitors, are designed to give adults with disabilities, in particular learning difficulties, an opportunity to take part in activities they would not normally be able to access, and there is a range of sports available, all of them specially adapted so that everyone, regardless of their disability, can take part.   The range of sports includes Archery, Cricket, Tennis, Cycling, Golf, Darts, Basketball, Table Tennis, Kurling and Bowls, as well as fun activities such as Penalty Shoot-Out, Skittles, Velcro Target, Boccia, Softball and Assault Course.

Last year we were lucky to have a warm, sunny day for this annual event, and you can see from the photographs how much everyone enjoyed the fun! We had over 250 competitors from all over the region, from Liverpool to Oswestry and from Anglesey to Sandbach, most attending as groups from a local support club but also individuals with their parents or carers.

It is a great fun day out in the open air with the chance to try new activities, socialise, meet other groups, and picnic in the extensive grounds of the sports field.

The highlight for many competitors is the medal presentation ceremony at the end of the Games when everyone who took part receives a medal, and the day is often rounded off by some impromptu singing and dancing.

The 2016 Fun Games will be held on Sunday 11th September at the MBNA sports grounds on Chester Business Park between 10.00am and 3.00 pm and we look forward to welcoming you there!

About Rotary District 1180

Welcome to Rotary International District 1180, a District that covers the whole of North Wales, Merseyside and parts of Cheshire, Shropshire and Lancashire and embraces a variety of communities ranging from the pastoral peacefulness and tranquillity of rural areas to the hustle and bustle and vibrancy of city life. The District includes four cities – Liverpool, Chester, Bangor and St Asaph, as well as The Royal Town of Caernarfon.

Liverpool was one of the first clubs outside USA to be chartered and in 2013 celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the granting of its Charter. It has since merged with Liverpool City, chartered in 2009, and the two are now collectively known as City of Liverpool.

The District is one of the few represented in two countries, and uses two languages, Welsh and English. It is claimed by the inhabitants of Liverpool that there is also a third language – Scouse!!

Rotarians in the District are active both in their local communities and in overseas projects, contributing practical as well as financial support. Details of these can be found on the District 1180 website (see link below).
